Travelex expands presence at Frankfurt Airport, catering to rising passenger numbers

Travelex now operates 14 stores and 30 ATMs at Frankfurt, building on its three-decade-long partnership

Travelex, a leading foreign exchange company has opened three new stores at Frankfurt Airport Terminal 1B, 1A and 1A/Z to meet growing passenger demand, following a 4.9% rise in footfall in January 2026.

The new Travelex stores will enable customers to purchase travel money on the day of their trip, from a choice of 50 different currencies as well as collect pre-ordered cash from the Travelex website. The stores are centrally located at the landside departures section of Terminal 1A, the landside departures section of terminal 1B, and the airside section of Terminal 1A/Z.

Travelex’s Frankfurt expansion comes at a time of strong growth for Germany’s tourism sector, with visitor numbers forecast to grow by 3.2% in 2026, according to Tourism Economics. Frankfurt airport saw a 2.6% increase in footfall in 2025, ahead of the 4.9% on-year rise increase this January.

The new stores mark the latest chapter in Travelex’s long-standing relationship with Germany’s busiest airport. Travelex opened its first site at Frankfurt in 1993 in Terminal 1 and now operates 13 stores and 30 ATMs across the airport in Terminal 1 (both landside and airside).

Alongside supplying retail travel money, Travelex runs a wholesale operation at Frankfurt providing cash for more than 70% of the airport’s retailers, as well as a tax refund operation.

Travelex will shortly be opening new locations at Munich Airport in the new Terminal 1E, meaning that it now operates at five of Germany’s six busiest airports, including Frankfurt, Berlin, Munich, Cologne, and Hamburg.
