Leading travel money provider Travelex will operate exclusively for Munich’s non-Schengen traffic
Leading foreign exchange company Travelex has become the exclusive travel money provider at Munich Airport’s new €665 million Terminal 1E/extension pier.
Having won the five-year contract, Travelex has opened two new stores – one airside and one landside – along with five ATMs at the airport’s non-Schengen pier. The state-of-the-art, 95,000-square-metre Terminal 1E pier, which opened on 21st April, has been designed to accommodate up to six million passengers travelling long-haul with around 40 different airlines annually.
“We’re thrilled to be chosen as the leading travel money partner to enter Munich Airport, building on our rich history in Germany that spans over three decades,” said Leonard Stolk, Managing Director for Europe at Travelex. “The new Munich Airport Terminal 1E/extension has set a new standard for passenger experiences, and we look forward to continuing to cater to the millions of travellers passing through this terminal, to ensure they have convenient and secure access to travel money and the possibility for tax refund.”
The partnership comes as Munich celebrates its busiest year since before the Covid-19 pandemic, with 43.4 million passengers welcomed in 2025. The airport is the second busiest in Germany and is used by roughly one in every five air travellers who enter the country.
Both of the new stores allow customers to purchase over 50 different currencies on the day of their trip, as well as collect cash pre-ordered through the Travelex website. The stores also offer tax refund services.
Travelex now operates stores at five of Germany’s six busiest airports, including Frankfurt, Berlin Brandenburg, and Hamburg. The company recently extended its 33-year partnership with Frankfurt Airport, where it operates 13 stores and provides 30 ATMs.
